Peter Windsor saw a great start from Max Verstappen at the US Grand Prix. He also elaborates on Charles Leclerc's weekend and the crash between Sainz and Russell.

In the analysis on his YouTube channel, Windsor says Leclerc had a shaky weekend. For example, Robert Shwartzmann was in his car for the first free practice, but he kept getting closer in the other practice sessions. He was then beaten in qualifying by his teammate and also got a grid penalty after changing his turbo and other parts. As a result, he started P12 and lost grip after the incident between George Russell and Sainz on the first lap.

'Game over for Sainz'

Windsor continued that the way Verstappen overtook Sainz was not very surprising. "Max was ahead, he was on the inside. Game over for Carlos Sainz, it was the end when he spun around and Carlos was out with damage to the side pod." Windsor called it a very disappointing day for Sainz who was allowed to start from pole and had a poor start. "Which is unusual for Ferrari, Ferrari is usually very good off the line."

The British analyst says it was a matter of luck that Russell hit Sainz, as he could very easily have hit Lewis Hamilton. "Hamilton did a really good job of just running wide and reading what was about to happen." He goes on to wonder what would have happened if Russell had hit his teammate in that first corner. "If Mercedes are truly back next year in the world championship again. And even perhaps towards the end of this year with a car that is looking pretty good, imagine the racing  and how tough it’s going to be between George Russell and Lewis Hamilton."
