Toto Wolff has had two disappointing races with Mercedes. While the team failed to score more than two points in the Singapore Grand Prix, the stable's performance in Japan a week later was good for 14 points. The team boss, therefore, knows that things have to improve and is confident of that, he told in Mercedes' press release.

"The double-header in Singapore and Japan was a frustrating one for the team, as we didn't put ourselves in the clean air we needed to maximise the race pace of the car," explained Wolff, who remains ambitious. "We want to end this season strongly and the results of the last two races only make us more determined to do so."

Mercedes wants to take important step

Despite Max Verstappen securing his second world title in Japan, Mercedes still has plenty to go for this year. The German formation can still secure the second spot in the constructors' championship, although the difference with Ferrari ran up to 67 points against Mercedes.

At the same time, Wolff is preoccupied with the 2023 season, when Mercedes hopes to compete for wins again. The Austrian team leader knows that the final GPs will be important in preparing for the new racing year, leaving Mercedes with some challenging weeks ahead.

"We need to use the limited track time available to make strides forward for this season and generate as much learning as we can in the development race for 2023," the team boss continued. "Our final update package of the year will be brought to Austin. It won't drastically change our fortunes but we're hopeful it will bring us a step forward and closer to the front runners."
