Ferrari had to scale back engine to increase reliability'

Ferrari has not fully shown what the car is capable of this season, according to Formu1a.uno. Indeed, behind the scenes, the Italian racetrack has mainly been working on fixing technical problems, which has prevented it from fully screwing up the engine.

At the start of the season, Ferrari immediately picked up a couple of wins, after which expectations rose. However, with three stoppages for Charles Leclerc and five for Carlos Sainz, the Italians soon found out that it needed to focus on reliability.

Ferrari then decided to postpone some developments to the powerplant to 2023 so that it could have the focus on the technical problems this calendar year. The solution has now reportedly been mapped out, which should ensure that Ferrari will make great strides.

This season, Mattia Binotto's team just needs to take it easy. It seems, therefore, that both Leclerc and Sainz will have to make another engine change this year to avoid a retirement. The United States Grand Prix, due next weekend, would be among the possibilities.

Ferrari focuses on 2023

If the formation does manage to make use of the full power next season, it seems Ferrari could improve considerably. However, it remains to be seen whether the progress will be big enough to make things difficult for Red Bull Racing for an entire year.
