Jarno Opmeer has started his F1 Esports Series Pro Championship well. The Dutchman finished second in the opening race in Bahrain after a thrilling race for victory.

Opmeer is the reigning and two-time world champion in this online championship and so the Mercedes driver had to be there from race one to defend his title again this year. Opmeer started from fifth place and had work to do in that respect. In 2022, however, the races are longer (50 instead of 35 per cent of the full race distance) and so more could be done strategically.

Opmeer made good use of this by stretching his first stint and thus having better tyres left at the end. So he fought his way towards second place in the final laps, but Lucas Blakeley proved just a little too difficult to overtake. Thus, the Scot was the winner of the first race on behalf of McLaren. Bari Boroumand finished third.

The F1 Esports Series Pro Championship calendar has 12 races spread over the four months. Now, three races will be held consecutively in September. The race in Imola follows on 15 September and the one in England on 16 September. After that, the next series is only from 12 to 14 October. Then the series will also make an appearance at Zandvoort.
