Nyck de Vries impressed Jolyon Palmer last weekend. Although the racing driver knew the Dutchman possessed an excellent level of skill, he did not expect De Vries to perform so convincingly. Palmer therefore cannot imagine not being awarded a Formula 1 spot next season.

The Briton points mainly to the preparation time De Vries had. Whereas Nicholas Latifi was able to use all practice sessions in Monza to fully tune his Williams car on the track, Max Verstappen 's compatriot only got the third free practice to do so.

It already impressed Palmer that De Vries managed to get a better starting position than Latifi, but in the race he said he did even better. De Vries managed to keep Guanyu Zhou behind him for a long time, taking ninth place overall.

Future prospects for De Vries

After the race, it raised the question of which Formula 1 racing stable will try to add De Vries to the team in the coming months. For years, doubts sounded whether he would ever be admired in the motorsport class, but with his performance in the Italian Grand Prix, he seems to have won over several teams.

"Surely for Williams now, the prospect of having two potential point scorers will be too appealing to turn down for 2023. But it won’t just be them that are keen on De Vries’s signature now," Palmer stated at Formula1.com. "Any reserve driver outing is an opportunity, and Nyck De Vries grabbed it with both hands in Monza."
