Laurent Mekies of Ferrari looks back with great satisfaction at the qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix in which Charles Leclerc took pole position. The Frenchman in charge of the Italian formation also looks back at the difficult times and feels the support of the Tifosi. He also admits that Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing are in a better position.

So far it seems that Ferrari has found their feet again. After a good Friday the team from Maranello were also on the pace on Saturday. After the third free practice Max Verstappen still seemed the strongest, but Ferrari managed to get something extra out of the car for Leclerc's pole lap. Carlos Sainz will start at the back of the field due to grid penalties. Mekies is happy they were able to give something back to the fans after difficult times and the support is palpable.

'Red Bull better'

Yet he also looks back at those difficult times. "In the last three races we didn't have the best pace out there and in fairness Max and Red Bull did a better job than us. So, it's probably the first time since quite a few weeks that we are up there." he is referring to a possible podium finish.

The Ferrari chief goes on to say that on paper it will not be much different to Spa. Mekies also admits that they missed something more in the race and that Sunday will show whether they have solved that or whether it will be more difficult. "Max has been winning two races from the back and here it will be ultimately what is your pace tomorrow and what is your tyre deg tomorrow that is what will make you have the pace tomorrow. If you have it, you will get through the field."
