While Max Verstappen looks set for his second world title, Sergio Perez is finding it increasingly difficult in his RB18. Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, the Mexican is talking about analysing his performance.

Perez drops out in 2022

Perez hoped to be in contention for the world title at the start of the season and, given his team-mate's apparent elimination, on paper that was certainly achievable with the RB18. However, updates throughout the season have not helped Perez. While Verstappen won the last four races, Perez has only been on the podium once.

''We have a lot to analyse from the race last weekend to try and make sure we come back stronger in Monza. I am struggling a little with my car setup, but I am confident I can get on top of it with the Team and improve my performance,'' Perez said in Red Bull Racing's press release. Perez finished fifth at Zandvoort.

Fans in Italy

''We are going from one amazing crowd in Zandvoort to another in Italy, the Italian fans have such a passion for Formula One and we know Ferrari will have a lot of support there. I would like to reclaim second place in the Driver’s Championship this weekend and make sure the Team’s Constructor’s lead continues to grow,'' Perez concluded.

The Mexican still has plenty of competition in the battle for second place. Perez and Charles Leclerc are both on 201 points, but on 188 and 175 points respectively George Russell and Carlos Sainz also hope to have a chance at the second spot. Lewis Hamilton, with 158 at most, seems an outsider for a role in that battle.
