5 things we want to see in today's race!

With the Monaco GP today, here are five things we are looking forward to in the race!

Can Ricciardo banish the demons of 2016?

Daniel Ricciardo suffered a nightmare in Monaco two years ago, when he was called into the pits before the team were ready for him, gifting the win to Lewis Hamilton. Ricciardo has come here this year with a point to prove, leading every session and taking a stunning pole position.

The Ferrari-Mercedes battle

Behind Ricciardo, Vettel, Hamilton, Raikkonen and Bottas are lining up to pounce. Mercedes have the edge in the constructors’ championship so far, but it can all swing with one or two good race weekends for the prancing horse. If Vettel and Raikkonen can get the better of the Mercedes duo, they could haul Ferrari back into the title battle.

Surprise podium?

Sergio Perez became the first midfield driver to clinch a podium position in Baku two races ago, and it could be his team mate Esteban Ocon springing a surprise this time. Ocon qualified sixth and is looking to add to his points tally, which stands at just one so far this season. If there is trouble at the front, it could well be Ocon who picks up the pieces.

What can Verstappen do?

Max Verstappen will start at the back of the grid after crashing in FP3, forcing the team into a gearbox change which prevented him from participating in qualifying yesterday. Monaco is notoriously difficult for overtaking, but don’t be surprised to see the Dutchman in the points come the end of the race! That, or the barriers...

Overtakes!

As mentioned above, overtaking is not necessarily commonplace on the streets of Monte Carlo, and with the cars wider than ever before, overtaking could be sparse today. Let’s hope for plenty of daring moves from the likes of Verstappen today!
