Max Verstappen maintains that there are too many races on the F1 calendar. According to the reigning world champion this should change and the number of races should be drastically reduced to sixteen.

As it looks now, the grands prix in France and Belgium are in pole position to disappear from the calendar. This to make way for Las Vegas, China, Qatar which will almost certainly fill the calendar again. Another candidate is South Africa, but if that does not go ahead, Belgium will possibly remain on the calendar. It would then come down to 23 or 24 races in the season. Verstappen is not in favour of this.

Fewer races

The Dutchman was asked during the press conference in Hungary about what he would change about Formula 1 and his answer was clear:"Less races." Asked about his ideal amount of races the Dutchman said:" Twelve. No, I think, like, 16. Just pick all the good tracks. Leave all the others out." He did not reveal which circuits he would like to see.

Logistic puzzle

Stefano Domenicali said earlier that Formula 1 could organise up to 30 races in one season. However, thanks to the current Concorde Agreement, there can only be 24 races. Because of the enormous logistic puzzle and the budget cap that teams have to take into account, this is not realistic. It remains to be seen whether Domenicali values Verstappen's opinion.
