Ferrari came out with the news on Friday that it will not be replacing Charles Leclerc's turbo during the Canadian Grand Prix, which would allow the driver to avoid a grid penalty. However, it cannot be ruled out that this is a strategic move.

After Leclerc's engine problems in Azerbaijan, Ferrari had to renew several parts to the engine. For the time being it stayed away from the turbo, but it is expected that the Italians will still come with the news on Saturday prior to qualifying that it will be replaced, in combination with some other parts.

It would mean that Leclerc is up against a hefty grid penalty. Since the formation is already up against the maximum number of turbochargers and would also receive a penalty on other aspects, Leclerc would have to start the race from last place. It will therefore be a great challenge for him to fight his way onto the podium.

Leclerc must be patient at Ferrari

Talking to Viaplay on Friday, Leclerc already expressed his concerns about the problems at the Italians. The driver stated that the problems are still not solved and that he must therefore be patient. Leclerc will therefore have a difficult weekend ahead of him.
