A fan of former F1 reporter and pit reporter Olav Mol and Jack Plooij started a fundraiser last week to get the two to do commentary at the races again. The crowdfunding has since been taken offline, however.

Mol and Plooij have been known for decades as the regular Dutch faces at Formula 1. Now that Viaplay has acquired the broadcasting rights for the Netherlands, the two are no longer present on the F1 circuit. A disappointed fan started a fundraising campaign on the website steunactie.nl to collect 300,000 euros. With that money, the two could get back on the road.

Crowdfunding for Mol and Plooij stopped again

Grand Prix RadioMol's current employer calls the action 'sympathetic, but not effective'. The intended target of 300,000 Euros offers no certainty that the two can return to the paddock. Press access to the circuits is not for sale. The broadcasting company, in the case of the Dutch commentary ViaPlay, decides who is allowed to go to the circuit.

Mol and Plooij were aware of the action, but emphasize that they have nothing to do with it. They appreciate the intention of the founder of the action. Steunactie.nl regrets that the action has to be taken offline, but understands the reason.
