Question marks Haas/Ferrari relationship: 'Trust the FIA will investigate'
- GPblog.com
Haas has taken a big step into 2022. Last season the team scored zero points, but now Haas is already at P7 in the championship after strong starts in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Still, some team bosses think Haas is benefiting too much from its close ties with Ferrari.
As a customer team of Ferrari, Haas has good ties with the Italian team. There is a growing debate in Formula 1 about the relationships between the teams, with rival team bosses arguing that the regulations should be changed. Indeed, they want to prevent team cooperation from becoming too close.
Since 2016, Haas has already partnered with Ferrari. The team gets Ferrari engines and gearboxes, as well as various components such as the suspension needed for an F1 car. The team also shares the wind tunnel with Ferrari.
Team bosses keep an eye on Haas
Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer is surprised at the big step forward Haas has made this season. "I thought that the pecking order would stay almost the same", he is quoted by Racer.com. Indeed, according to Szafnauer, it is mainly the top teams that benefit from major rule changes because they have the right infrastructure and tools to build a new car.
"So it’s a bit surprising that Haas are where they are for a small team. But I trust the FIA will investigate and come to the right conclusion between how similar the two cars are", says the Alpine team boss.
