Mercedes battled Red Bull Racing for the world title last season, with it being Max Verstappen who prevailed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The way the Dutchman won, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff could not accept for quite some time, but now he is over the loss. He tells that in an interview with De Telegraaf.

Lewis Hamilton seemed to be taking the victory in the final race in 2021. However, after a crash by Nicholas Latifi, the whole situation changed. Race control brought a safety car onto the track which brought it in one lap before the end. With fresher tires, Verstappen then managed to beat his rival.

Wolff gives Verstappen big compliment

For months it caused a lot of anger at Mercedes, which has had to settle for a place in the midfield for the time being this season. The Germans were critical of the situation at the beginning of the year. However, Wolff thinks it is time to look forward and even compliments Verstappen in the interview.

"The way the championship was decided was completely different from my view of motorsport. I'm at peace with it by now," explained Wolff, who respects Verstappen's qualities. "Max is a brilliant driver and this has not been his last world title."
