Red Bull releases statement: 'This caused the cars to break down'

Red Bull Racing has released a statement about the cause of their double DNF in Bahrain. In Saudi Arabia, the Austrian team provided more clarity.

Red Bull Racing saw both of its drivers retire in the closing stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix, and with that a lot of points were lost. 30 points seemed to be going the team's way with a second place for Max Verstappen and a fourth place for Sergio Perez, but both drivers retired with a problem.

Red Bull finds the cause

Red Bull was secretive about the problem for a long time. First they pointed to the fuel pump that is supplied as standard part to the F1 teams, but Sergio Perez announced that this was not the cause of the problem. A Red Bull system would have failed, but Red Bull didn't want to make the competition any the wiser and didn't release anything about the cause.

But, Red Bull have now released a statement clarifying the problem: "Both cars suffered lack of fuel pressure. Correct amount of fuel in both cars, but a vacuum prevented the pumps from drawing fuel. We’ve taken the necessary steps to correct this issue and we expect no problems this weekend," according to the BBC's Andrew Benson's twitter channel.
