Mercedes poses danger: 'You should never underestimate that team'

Mercedes has had a difficult start to the season. Where the German racing team already did not look good during the test days in Barcelona and Bahrain, in the opening race the team also struggled to keep up with Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. Nevertheless, Christian Klien thinks the Germans are coming back.

The team of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell is clearly struggling to put a car on the track that can compete. Although the drivers finished third and fourth respectively in Bahrain, this had more to do with the retirement of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez than Mercedes' form.

Underestimating Mercedes not smart

The German formation therefore knows better than anyone that there is still plenty of work to be done. While the battle for the lead in the world championship seems to be between Red Bull and Ferrari, Klien expects Mercedes to fight back in the coming months.

"You should never underestimate Mercedes," Klien, who has a history with Red Bull, tells in conversation with Servus TV. "They have very good people and a lot of experience. Teams close ranks mid-season, come up with updates and copy the competition. But points you don't gain now, you can miss at the end."
