McLaren, like all the other teams, are gearing up for the start of the new Formula One season, but prior to the season, the team from Woking also knows that not too much can be broken in the first few weeks.

New cars in 2022

Formula 1 starts this season with a new generation of cars. The completely new set of aerodynamic regulations will cause the cars to look completely different. This also creates logistical problems for the teams.

For example, McLaren's Operations Director, Piers Thynne, explains on the McLaren website explain that there are far fewer spare parts this year. The number of parts they have to make in the run-up to the new season is the same, but unlike previous years, they can't use parts from older cars now.

Few parts for McLaren

In addition, performance is also the most important thing and so McLaren is fully aiming at the first race. For the Bahrain Grand Prix there is also a first update package ready, with which McLaren hopes to perform as well as possible. That it could be short of parts as a result, Thynne does not see it as a problem.

''One of the reasons why we have so few parts is that we know we want to develop the car further. There are no prizes given out for having six floors or six front wings. We are taking a slightly different approach in that regard this year because of the rule changes. That will be the key to success this year,'' concludes Thynne.
