The new 2022 regulations could give other teams the chance to compete in the championship. Aston Martin is also hoping to rise to the top. Sebastian Vettel drove his first season with the team in 2021 and feels a certain amount of responsibility.

The four-time world champion made the switch from Ferrari to Aston Martin in 2021. The German eventually finished twelfth in the championship, something he still has to get used to after his years at Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. In conversation with F1 Insider Vettel talks about the responsibility he feels for leading Aston Martin to the top.

New rules offer opportunities

"In a way, I feel that responsibility. The motivation is there, we are trying to improve together. The new rules offer a great opportunity in 2022, but we also have to remain realistic and not talk about being favourites, but look at how good our car is," he says.

In 2020 the team was still racing under the name Racing Point. The car was very strong in that season, but this year it was disappointing. Especially in the last couple of races, the pace was poor. Just like all other teams Aston Martin hopes to do better next year under the new regulations.
