The site states that the Briton will not retire and Mercedes said that he does not want to give up his seat in 2022. This puts an end to all speculation, although there is no official confirmation from Mercedes yet.

Chances are that such an announcement will not come either. After all, Hamilton never expressed the thought of quitting. It was Wolff's words that suddenly made the rumour machine run at full speed.

Bad moment

A sudden departure of Hamilton would have been very bad timing for Mercedes. The team already has one new driver in the person of George Russell.
