The Cadillac F1 Team is the latest and most ambitious attempt by the United States to break into the prestigious world of Formula 1. Under the umbrella of General Motors, Cadillac is working to build an entirely new F1 team designed to compete with established names such as Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull Racing. The Cadillac F1 Team is set to join the grid in 2026 as the eleventh team, marking a significant step forward for both American motorsport and Formula 1 as a whole.
Cadillac F1
Known for its luxury and high-performance vehicles, Cadillac aims to showcase its technical expertise and innovation in the top tier of motorsport through the new Cadillac F1 project. The team will be headquartered in Fishers, Indiana, with additional facilities located in Silverstone (UK), Charlotte (North Carolina), and Warren (Michigan).
Initially, the team will use Ferrari engines, but the plan is to compete as a full factory team starting in 2028 with a power unit designed by General Motors. Cadillac’s entry in 2026 will expand the Formula 1 grid to eleven teams, adding diversity and competition to the sport. The involvement of a renowned American manufacturer like Cadillac highlights the global appeal of Formula 1 and paves the way for further growth and innovation in the years to come.
Andretti Global and Cadillac
The original plan to launch the Formula 1 team as "Andretti Cadillac," led by Michael Andretti, was rejected by Formula One Management (FOM) in 2024. Although the FIA approved the project, the FOM argued that the Andretti name added insufficient value and that the team was too reliant on customer engines.
To improve its chances of joining the F1 grid, Michael Andretti stepped down from day-to-day operations in September 2024. TWG Global, led by Dan Towriss, took over the project and restructured the team. This led to the renaming of “Andretti Racing” to “Cadillac Formula Racing Ltd.” in December 2024, officially removing the Andretti name. Although Michael Andretti no longer has an official role, his father, Mario Andretti, remains involved as a board member.
Cadillac F1 Drivers 2026
As of now, the driver lineup for the Cadillac F1 Team in 2026 has not been officially confirmed. There are several rumors regarding who might drive for the new American team. The team has stated that it aims to select a mix of experience and young talent, ideally with at least one American driver.
Experienced names such as Sergio Pérez, Valtteri Bottas, and Mick Schumacher have been linked to a potential seat with the Cadillac F1 Team. For the second seat, names like Frederik Vesti and IndyCar drivers Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta are being considered. The official lineup for Cadillac is expected to be announced later this year.
