Marko: "We had a good winter, but coronavirus was causing a big backlog"

For Red Bull Racing, the start of the season did not go quite as expected. The team managed to reach the podium in every race except the first, but the gap to Mercedes is large and it doesn't look like they'll catch the leaders. However, Helmut Marko recognises that Red Bull had a very good winter, but that the coronavirus caused a lot of changes.

"It was one of the best winters. We were much better prepared for the season, but in the end it turned out we didn't have a strong car," Marko explained in an interview with Motorsport-Total.com. "During the winter test we had a first version of the car, by the time of the first race it was already a sixth evaluation."

Coronavirus causes delay

According to Marko, this is only due to data from the wind tunnel. "We have carried out all the developments on the basis of the tests, data from the wind tunnel and from the simulator. Something happened in that process and we are still looking for reasons why we don't have the downforce that we did expect."

"We are getting closer slowly, in the first race we were slower than last year. We were supposed to have updates in Melbourne, Barcelona and Austria, but we had to skip that. Circumstances have got us stuck somewhere, but the coronavirus has clearly slowed us down."
