Agreed Craig. This was my reply to some haters on Social media: Whenever there are tyre failures the finger of blame naturally points to the tyre manufacturer. However, there are many potential causes, or combinations of causes that need to be considered. Some of the information will be in the public domain, but much of it not, so before blaming Pirelli it’s worth taking a breath and looking at the following: Thermal history (in blankets and on-track) Loading history. Lock-ups (usually fronts) Any excessive wheel spin Any specific kerbs causing damage, perhaps due to kerb displacement, but also could be due to driving line, manhole covers. Pressures (& pressure history) Cambers (static & dynamic) Suspension Camber change with bump & roll. Toe. Tyre damage due to scrapes with other drivers or barriers. Parts of someone else’s accident damage on track. Length of race stint. Etc. Etc. It may well be a tyre problem, either general unsuitability, or quality control. But I wouldn’t say 2 tyres out of the entire grid is necessarily statistically significant. Let’s wait, they will tell us…
