Given that Lewis Hamilton has been so openly engaged in the Black Lives Matter movement that has flared up during all the civil unrest occurring in America, I would be surprised is Lewis remains silent on this issue. With Amnesty International has directly calling for his public support, I think Lewis’s actions or in-actions on this issue, will consolidate or totally detract from his legacy regarding his character and convictions, beyond mere Formula 1 success where he is one of the GOATs. He has advocated for social-justice causes, institutional racism, inequality and educational developmental programs to increase educational opportunities for the underprivileged in different parts of the world. Admittedly, Hamilton and team principal Toto Wolff may be hamstrung by billion-dollar financial interests behind his company and the roaring trade that Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicle arm do in Saudi Arabia and surrounding regions. I wonder what instructions will filter down from Mercedes management if he were to take an independent stance on the issue. I feel that he’ll have a huge amount of influence in the team and with Toto given how invaluable he is as a driver and as an elder statesman of the sport. I think he needs to put his money where his mouth is and enter into the discussion about the viability of adding races in countries that openly undermine human rights or potentially boycott the race altogether.
