Max Verstappen tried to deal the final blow to Lewis Hamilton during the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday night, but the opposite was true. The Englishman had a glorious weekend and reduced his gap in the world championship to 14 points. Verstappen is not worried about the rest of the season though.

The Red Bull Racing driver believes Hamilton's new internal combustion engine was responsible for Mercedes being so strong in Brazil. "Of course, I would have liked to be a little bit closer, but it just seemed very tough for us here," he told in the FIA press conference. "Of course, taking the new engine clearly gains them a bit of performance initially – but that will slowly come back to normal. So, yeah, maybe it looks a little bit more dramatic now but I’m confident that slowly that will be a bit more normal."

Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen

With the Grands Prix of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi in sight Mercedes and Red Bull face a period of uncertainty. The question is which car will be best at each of the upcoming circuits, making it more and more likely that the decision will be made in Abu Dhabi.

Verstappen, however, is not worried about his rival moving back up the rankings. "It’s been like this the whole year. It went up, comes down, went behind, I’m back in front, so you know a lot of things can happen still."
