Mercedes suffered a major setback in Mexico. Although things looked good after qualifying with both drivers on the front row of the grid, in the race the team had to acknowledge their superiority to Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing.

Everything can still happen

Verstappen won the Mexican Grand Prix in dominant fashion, with teammate Sergio Perez in third place. Lewis Hamilton finished second, scoring the only points for his team. Bottas finished 15th after a spin in the first corner and a slow pit stop. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull are now only one point behind Mercedes and Verstappen increased his lead over Hamilton to nineteen points.

"I'm a pretty realistic person, but I love motorsport because anything can happen," Wolff continues to Autosport.com believing in a comeback from Hamilton and Mercedes. Despite the defeat in Mexico, he is not yet willing to say that the championship is slipping from his hands. "None of us are going to leave here with that mentality. There are still four races to go. Four wins to take, four DNFs to suffer. We'll just keep fighting."

Mercedes a great team

Wolff therefore continues to believe in the strength of Mercedes. "We know we have a great team. Our car was exceptionally good in Turkey. I think we have everything to win. However, if you look at the mathematical probability, of course I would rather be nineteen points ahead than behind, but it is what it is."
