Max Verstappen was anything but satisfied with his third place in qualifying on Saturday night. The Dutchman has not given up yet though, as he believes the Mercedes have shown 'nothing special' at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez.

"If you look at the gaps behind us, it's really not like Mercedes is suddenly doing something special. We were just too slow. It's all in the details this season," Verstappen revealed to the likes of De Telegraaf in the press conference.

Verstappen goes back to 2019

The Limburger is angry, but not as angry as two years ago. "I've been angrier here before, that's right", he can now laugh a little about it. Back then he was given a three-place grid penalty after setting the fastest time in qualifying. That was due to ignoring yellow flags on his fastest lap.

A fastest time would have been possible this season too, were it not for Yuki Tsunoda getting in the way, in his opinion. "Yuki gave Pierre Gasly a slipstream, but he went off the line in the most illogical way. Then Sergio gets unbalanced and I come up, see only dust and think someone has gone into the wall there or something. Nowadays you have to get off the gas when there's a yellow flag - I've had problems with that here - so I did, but then I saw them pull away together from the dust. I lost two tenths and then it was all over," concluded Verstappen.
