Formula 1 has welcomed many new drivers over the last few seasons. If it was up to Prema team principal René Rosin, Robert Schwartzman and Oscar Piastri will soon be added to that list too, despite Formula 2's schedule.

Formula 2 is the springboard for young drivers to make the step up to Formula 1. In the last couple of years we have seen great talents like Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and George Russell making the switch.

René Rosin, the team boss of Prema's Formula 2 team, wants two other talents to make the switch to the premier class of motorsport, despite the strange schedule.

"Robert and Oscar are delivering an incredible performance on a calendar like this year. With such a long break, they can't really capitalize on their previous experience and only have one practice session to get into shape. Their performance cannot be overlooked. Both drivers deserve a place in Formula 1," Rosin argued to Russian Championnat.

A remarkable F2 calendar

Formula 2 has a remarkably long break in its schedule this year. The last race hero was in Russia at the end of September. The next race is not until Jeddah, in the first week of December.

Because of the schedule, the two drivers have a big disadvantage according to Rosin. "It hinders the drivers who are competing for the title until late in the season, which can hurt their plans for next year. It's much harder for the drivers to negotiate and also for us as a team."

Currently Piastri and Schwartzman, who are first and third in the standings respectively, have only one seat in Formula One to fight for. There is still one spot at Alfa Romeo allocated. One of the Formula 2 drivers could be Valtteri Bottas' teammate next year or maybe Antonio Giovinazzi could have his contract extended.
