Lewis Hamilton booked his hundredth victory in Formula 1 during the Russian Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. The seven times world champion is now one of the best drivers in the world. With the prolongation of his contract it seems as if his impressive career is not over yet.

The British driver still doesn't seem to be used to the victories he achieved in Formula 1. Sunday afternoon Hamilton was so happy when he crossed the finish line first. "It is a unique performance from him," Jeroen Bleekemolen stated in conversation with GPblog. "It is a number for which you have to take your hat off exclusively. Of course it is true that Hamilton was often in the best car in recent years, but you have to do it in the end. He just keeps winning and that's beyond clever."

Hamilton has scored some stunning victories in recent years in which he showed a fine display of racing. "When I think of him, especially the moments come to mind where he won in the rain. That is, of course, where his qualities lie. There are simply too many victories to mention. Hopefully for Hamilton there will be quite a few more in the coming years."

Hamilton's future with Russell

After this season, Mercedes will say goodbye to Valtteri Bottas who has received a lot of criticism for his performance in recent years. Where the Finnish driver leaves for Alfa Romeo, the German racing stable brings George Russell to the team. Hamilton's fellow countryman is expected to raise the team's level further. "Hamilton will certainly not be put off by Russell. He's simply too experienced for that. However, he will have a tougher time and there will be extra tension."

Hamilton is still under contract with Mercedes for the next two years, after which the driver will look further afield. It remains to be seen what the driver will decide then. "I personally don't see Hamilton leaving for another team any time soon. Of course, he has enough other activities in life, so he might then choose to leave Formula 1. However, we can still enjoy him in 2022 and 2023."
