The Dutch Grand Prix had a blistering second free practice session on Friday afternoon. While Max Verstappen set the fourth fastest time of the afternoon session, Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire within ten minutes with engine problems.

The drivers returned to the track early on Friday to explore the circuit further and get ready for Saturday afternoon's qualifying session. Hamilton also went out with a lot of energy, but it was short-lived. The world championship leader lost power with his car and had to pull over. He had no choice but to retire and focus on Saturday.

It was not the only time the race was stopped for a short time, as the drivers also had to wait after Nikita Mazepin's crash. After half an hour, the Haas driver was unable to avoid missing a corner and coming to a hard stop. It caused chagrin for Verstappen who had to stop another fast lap.

The Dutchman ended up finishing fifth, while the two Ferraris stole the show. While Charles Leclerc was the fastest of the afternoon, Carlos Sainz was second in the second free practice session. Esteban Ocon continued his good form with a third time.
