Lammers honoured: 'At least we can still organise our event'

Tomorrow it will be definite, but after a long wait, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands will finally take place this weekend. Of course only with 66% capacity, but still. There will be raced in Zandvoort.

Jan Lammers is of course happy with that. He regrets that only 66% of the fans can attend, but he also knows that the fact that the event will take place at all is already a victory. This he says to RaceXpress.

"It's a shame, of course. Many people in the industry are affected by the corona rules. At least we will still be able to host our event at 66% capacity. In the longer term, we can hopefully host the race in front of full grandstands in the coming years."

Happy with current form

That is what Lammers thinks in any case. Indeed, he also knows that others in the events industry have not been so lucky.

"For now, we're happy that at least we can host 70,000 fans a day while others in the industry cannot. So we feel far-fetched, but having to disappoint 33% of the fans and also missing out on revenue doesn't make life any easier. We've had a lot of challenges over the last two years, but there are those in our industry who are far less fortunate. In short, we are not complaining and we are doing our best to put on a great event."

Tomorrow there will be another verdict during the summary proceedings brought by environmental organisation. If Zandvoort wins the case, the last hurdle for fans in Zandvoort will have been taken.
