The future of George Russell is, barely a week before the start of the second half of the season, still not clear. Will the young Briton drive for Williams again next year or will he sit alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes?

Despite all the attention and the Mercedes and Russell link, the Briton is also paying attention to the development of his current team. Because since a couple of years the team can finally move forward in a focused way. And Russell is happy with that. This he says to Motorsport-total.com.

"The last two years were very difficult to deal with because we knew we were so far away from the rest. There were no real performance targets, just general ones."

Where will Williams be next year?

Because with the changes that are going to be made next year, there is a good chance that there are going to be a lot of shifts. And Williams wants to contribute to that in a positive way. Russell thinks it can.

"They're not messing around, they're really tackling it, investing where they need to. Investigating where they need to improve the structure in the team. Because the processes and everything else in the factory are a little bit better. Williams wants to win. That sounds crazy when you sit here and consider we've been last for the last three years. But this team has ambitions and is going to work on them."

Finally, the Brit makes a prediction: "Maybe they won't be here next year, but they (Williams) will definitely be in midfield. And maybe in a couple of years for podiums and wins." Whether Williams will actually make this move remains to be seen.
