During the double-header in Austria, there was not only action on the track. In the FIA office, there was also action. There were discussions about the 2026 engines. The goal of the FIA is to attract new suppliers and they seem to have taken an important first step in that direction.

That reports Motorsport-Total.com. A new meeting in September, probably in Monza, will give clarity about the intentions of potential suppliers. According to the German media, they first discussed the budget and then the technical discussions took place and that worked.

Talks between CEO's coming up

The CTOs of the participating parties have started working with the engineers and this will be presented to the CEOs in September. Toto Wolff gives an additional explanation to Motorsport-Total.com. "There is a financial frame set up that you cannot go over and the level of that is still being discussed. We are currently in talks with the big boys of the organisations," explains Wolff.

Because of the different approaches, there are fewer and fewer problems. One of the parts that is still being discussed is the E-turbo. Mercedes is the market leader in this and wants to keep this part in the sport. Newer suppliers would rather see a compromise, so they don't start developing at a disadvantage. What is clear is that the engines will become more electric.

More electrical power

Completely electric is out of the question and the goal is to keep the power source at 1000 HP. However, the priority of a V6 internal combustion engine is pushed back and so electricity will play a bigger role. For example, there is a possibility that the F1 cars in the pitlane will be fully electric. In any case, they haven't worked out the details yet, but it is clear that in Spielberg there are new prospects for new suppliers to make their entrance into Formula 1.
