Verstappen: 'We are too slow this weekend, we have to learn from it'.

A third place, that was not the result Max Verstappen expected in qualifying for the GP of Hungary. In tomorrow's race, the Dutchman will start on softs, while Mercedes will start on mediums.

"I think it had become too close and of course you don't want to risk that. Look, I'd rather start third with a soft tyre than eleventh with a medium one. It's going to be very hot anyway so hopefully, we can do something with the start. It's hard to overtake here anyway and we'll see," Verstappen told the Ziggo Sport camera.

"Hopefully you get off the line just a little bit better and maybe have that first lap just a little bit more grip, but yes we'll see."

Mercedes are very fast

Whether he has a chance against Mercedes? "They are very fast. Four-tenths is maybe a bit of a distortion, but I can't go four-tenths faster either. We are just too slow this weekend and we have to accept that and learn from that as well. We also have to be realistic. You don't suddenly, when you're so far behind, start doing magical things in the race."

"We'll see how it all turns out tomorrow, but so far the weekend has obviously been a bit trickier than I expected," Verstappen finished.
