Max Verstappen is happy with his victory in the sprint race in Britain, but he knows that it will be extremely difficult to keep two Mercedes cars behind him on Sunday. At the same time, he puts his good Saturday into perspective when asked about the flooding in the south of the Netherlands in Verstappen's hometown, Limburg.

"I made that start, but they have so much top speed. You could see that after turn 4 for example, it was very difficult defending. We drive just a bit too much wing for this weekend, so we have to take it out of the corners. Unfortunately, you can't adjust that now", Verstappen told Ziggo Sport after the sprint race.

The 23-year-old Dutchman's tyres were not in the best of shape after 17 laps, but fortunately the same was true of competitor Hamilton."It's just tricky. You drive with such high tyre pressure with these tyres," he stated."With such fast corners that tyre just opens up, there's not a lot you can do about that."

No Perez

Sergio Perez has to start from last place, so Verstappen will be on his own on Sunday afternoon."It will be close, I suspect. Just purely because they are so fast on the straights, I will have to gain a lot of time back in those fast corners. That's difficult for the tyres and of course they have two cars behind me. They can do other strategies with that, so we have to stay awake."

Flooding in Limburg

Verstappen, himself from Limburg, is also getting all the news about the floods. It affects him. "Fortunately, no one in my family has had any problems, but of course when you see the images it's unbelievable. People lose everything they have worked for for a long time and where they also felt at home."

He continued: "Families of people I'm in contact with have lost everything. It's unbelievable. Hugely sad, their hearts are obviously broken. I hope they can come out strong, but it's a huge tragedy at the moment. Of course I hope to make people happy tomorrow, but if you put that in perspective of what is happening over there, it doesn't matter", Verstappen concluded his story with Jack Plooij.
