Max Verstappen won his fourth Grand Prix of the season in Austria, extending his lead in the battle for the world title to eighteen points over rival Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman showed his joy by applying full brakes at the finish for a burnout with his team.

Emotion of sport

As a result, Verstappen and Red Bull Racing could count on a warning from the FIA. Race director Michael Masi was not happy with the action and said that a similar action would result in a penalty.

Kees van de Grint says in the new episode of Dutch programme RTL GP Slipstream he absolutely doesn't agree with the race direction. "That's the emotion of sport. Then it's very sad that the FIA wants to suppress this", said the Formula 1 analyst.

Far too many penalties

Van de Grint is not happy about the penalties handed out during the Steiermark Grand Prix. "How many penalties were there this race? It's ridiculous. That makes it less fun." For example, both Valtteri Bottas and Yuki Tsunoda received a grid penalty of three spots.

Bottas received his penalty for his rather dastardly spin in the pit lane. "That penalty is ridiculous. That can happen, can't it? That's what racing is for. Moreover I had to laugh about it. You can say: you have to be careful with that, but to give a penalty right away. That directly affects the race.
