Sainz troubled by Hamilton: 'I knew I could catch him'

Carlos Sainz could be satisfied with the results during the Styrian Grand Prix. The Spanish driver reached sixth position and stayed ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc.
The Ferrari driver was very happy with his performance, but also had the feeling that more could have been done. Sainz tried to overtake Lando Norris, but couldn't. "I knew I could overtake him, but suddenly I was behind Lewis (Hamilton, red.)" Sainz said in conversation with Formel1.de.
Hamilton was driving on much older tyres at the time, which meant he couldn't cope with the speed. "I hesitated for five or ten laps whether I should follow him and try to catch Lando. Then I noticed that Lewis was having problems with the tyres and I was significantly faster. I then had to go back a lap, but it was already too late to catch Lando."
World Championship standings
With his sixth place, Sainz gained another eight points in the world championship. His teammate Charles Leclerc, who is one place higher, gained six points with a seventh place finish.
