For Max Verstappen, the Monaco Grand Prix could hardly have gone better. Not only did the Dutchman win for the first time in Monaco, but due to an off-weekend for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, he also grabbed the lead in the standings.

Prior to the weekend in Monaco, the pressure was on for Red Bull Racing. After two wins for Hamilton, the Brit had run away from Verstappen in the championship, which meant there were already people worrying about the championship. One race later, however, the roles are completely reversed.

Perfect weekend for Formula 1

''Nothing could have gone better for Formula One fans, than a win for Max Verstappen and a weekend where not everything goes right for Mercedes. It shows that the world champions can also make mistakes, with big consequences. For the tension in the championship it could not have gone better,'' says Timo Glock in his column for Sky Sports Deutschland.

''Verstappen had a lot of speed all weekend and didn't make any mistakes. In free practice he also had some bad luck with traffic, and rarely drove a free lap. In qualifying, the pole was 'stolen' from him, but he didn't let himself get confused. He's learnt a lot in that respect, and is now approaching things with a lot more composure. He really deserved this win'', concludes the former F1 driver.
