Leclerc grid penalty seems likely: Ferrari won't take risks in Monaco

As cool as it would be to start the Monaco Grand Prix from first place, Charles Leclerc should seriously consider that it might not happen on Sunday. Ferrari have announced that they will not take any risks.

Starting from P1 means a relatively good chance of winning in the narrow streets of Monte Carlo. With a grid penalty of five places for changing a gearbox, even scoring a podium is very difficult, so it might pay to just take the risk.

Ferrari is not going to gamble

Ferrari are not going to do that though, Mattia Binotto assures after qualifying. "No, we will not gamble. I think for us what's important after such a qualy is to try to maximise the number of points for the championship, and obviously to maximise we need to finish the race," the Italian told Motorsport.com

A possible retirement does not help in the battle for third place in the World Constructors' Championship. Binotto: “So reliability is key, reliability remains the priority. If we have any doubts, we will certainly change and fix it.”
