George Russell is in his third season in Formula 1. Since this year the Englishman is part of the Grand Prix Drivers Association. It was an easy decision for the young driver to take on this role.

Russell looks with great positivity at what the GPDA has been able to achieve in recent years and was keen to be part of it. "That has been great for the sport," the driver told Formula1.com. "Whenever we’ve had our debriefs between all of the drivers which, in 2019 was very common – probably once after every two Grands Prix we’d stay after the drivers’ briefing and we’d all talk about certain issues or ways we could improve the sport."

By his own admission, he was always quite present and enjoyed putting his opinion forward. "I guess having a voice for the drivers is something I’m quite proud of it to be honest. I’m looking forward to that and I think I have a very good relationship with a lot of the younger drivers. I guess Sebastian is sort of representing the older half of the grid; I’m potentially representing the younger half of the grid."

Changes to Formula One rules

The Formula One driver sees that Formula One is currently working to make positive changes to the sport in the future. Meanwhile, he continues to work hard at Williams. In Bahrain, he finished in 14th position behind Esteban Ocon and ahead of Sebastian Vettel.
