Wolff sympathises with 'depressed' Bottas: 'Must have been very bad'

Valtteri Bottas had his own episode in the third season of Drive to Survive. In it, the Finn also clearly admitted that it was sometimes so hard at Mercedes that he considered quitting. However, Toto Wolff doesn't believe that.
Depressed Bottas
During the third episode of Drive to Survive, Bottas was followed by the cameras of Netflix. The episode is set around the 2020 Russian Grand Prix, but it also looks back at a difficult moment for Bottas at the same circuit. Indeed, in 2018 he was given the team order to give his victory to Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton ultimately proved he never really needed those seven points in his battle with Sebastian Vettel, but Mercedes made the call anyway. In the episode, Bottas reveals that he asked himself why he was doing all this, and if it was still worth it. The Finn was even to the point of considering quitting.
Wolff doesn't believe it
However, Toto Wolff does not believe that his driver would have actually turned those thoughts around. ''Of course he was depressed. I can understand that. However, I don't think he was close to retirement. He's too competitive for that,'' Wolff told Motorsport-total.com.
However, the Austrian does understand his driver's anger. ''I already hated it, so I can imagine how bad it must have been for him. Much worse.'' Bottas decided at least one thing since this moment: ''Never do this again,'' Whether that will be the case, the future is yet to tell.
