Earlier this week Lewis Hamilton criticised the Catholic Church and during the first press conference of the year, the seven-time world champion did not hide his vision on the world.

Black Lives Matter

Following the Black Lives Matter movement, Hamilton took a stand against inequality last season. During the press conference, the British driver said that it was very important for him to kneel before the race. "I will continue to kneel and if young people kneel, they will ask their parents or teachers why they kneel. It's an uncomfortable subject, but the parents will educate themselves."

By kneeling, Hamilton wants to show the black community that he is on their side. "It felt empowering to not be silent like some people want you to be. Human rights shouldn't be political. Everyone deserves equal rights."

Three wishes

During the press conference, Hamilton is asked what he would do if he were given three wishes. "I already have everything I want myself, but then I want equality, no hunger and thirdly... somehow save the world."

In addition to his own efforts, Hamilton also expects a lot from Formula One in general. "With Formula One we visit all sorts of wonderful cultures. F1 needs to do more than just come in, have a good time and leave again." In Bahrain, Hamilton was already taking action himself. "I spoke to the British ambassador here and Bahraini officials. The right way is to speak in private."
