Vettel on helmet change: 'I don't have to stick to the German flag'

Sebastian Vettel has not only changed his employer in 2021. His helmet, which traditionally displays the German flag, has also changed from his time at Ferrari. Aston Martin has had a close cooperation with BWT during the Racing Point era, which is committed against the use of plastic. Vettel is also a big supporter of this and so he gladly adapts his helmet for it.
Speaking to Motorsport.com the German explains why the German flag is no longer on his helmet. "I have no pride that stands in the way of sticking with the German flag. The design is similar and the core is still the same, but the message is clear," said Vettel. The Aston Martin driver is happy that the team has a sponsor in the form of BWT.
Pink helmet stands out
"The team has a history with them. It's not only a strong partnership with the team, but there's technology behind it". BWT's idea is to avoid plastic bottles and Vettel agrees. "I don't use plastic bottles anymore and therefore you avoid plastic garbage," he said.
"I think Formula 1is well on its way to keeping plastic out of the paddock. I've done it myself for the past few years and I think there are solutions and companies like BWT that offer that kind of solution. The main thing is to create attention. It's a small thing to design your helmet differently, but you reach a lot of people with it," Vettel concluded.
