Based on the last couple of days you would think that Red Bull Racing has the best chances to win this season. Of course it doesn't work that simple in Formula 1. Despite the poor test of Mercedes, Max Verstappen still sees them as the big favourites.

"At the end of the day, it's still a test. The number of times Mercedes finished the test as fastest in recent years is not that big, so it doesn't really say much about pure performance," Verstappen told Motorsport.com.

Mercedes has always been known for sandbagging

The Dutchman has a point there, because of the past few seasons Mercedes were actually only fast during the winter test last year. The years before that, Ferrari seemed to be the team to beat every time, only to be left behind at the first race in Australia.

Verstappen is particularly pleased that the team has been able to complete so many laps, but leaves no misunderstanding about ranking. "I don't think we are the favourites. If Mercedes wins so many championships in a row, I think the situation is still the same as before we came to the test."
