Red Bull Racing has presented the car with which it aims to become Formula One world champion in the final year of its partnership with Honda: The RB16B. Like the other teams, they have chosen not to build a completely new car for 2021.

Of course, this is mainly due to the corona crisis. The new regulations were postponed for a year to 2022, so 2021 is considered an interim year. To save money in these difficult times, the FIA has restricted development for this season as much as possible.

The car with which Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez will start the first Grand Prix in Bahrain will therefore have many similarities with last year's car. At first glance this is a good sign for them, as the RB16 performed excellently in the second half of the season and was even faster than the Mercedes at times.

Can Red Bull Racing beat Mercedes?

Nevertheless, Adrian Newey faced quite a challenge last winter. In order to reduce the speed, the FIA has decided that part of the floor will disappear. With that, about ten percent of the downforce is lost and top designer Newey, as an aerodynamic specialist, will do everything in his power to recover this.

It will be interesting to see how the RB16B compares to Mercedes' new car. They too have to cut a chunk off the floor, but because the Mercedes has a much longer wheelbase and leans less forward, the outcome of this measure may be very different for both top teams.
