Alonso satisfied with day's work with Renault

Today the Young Driver Test was held in Abu Dhabi. Renault deployed Guanyu Zhou and Fernando Alonso. During the test mainly young drivers drive, but Alonso was also afforded an opportunity. 

Competitive spirit

It's clear Alonso hasn't lost his driving skills yet and with his fastest time he was also faster than Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon in the qualification for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Spaniard looks back on a good day. “It was good and very nice to be back in the car especially with the race team. I’ve been testing the 2018 car in preparation but this one felt a bit more serious.”

The two-time world champion managed to stay ahead of all the rookies in terms of time. “It ignited a little bit the competitive spirit."

Sign off basic things

Alonso had already tested the 2018 Renault, but today, for the first time, he was driving the 2020 car. "It was great to feel the modern cars and experience what they can do. I was watching the team’s progress at the weekend closely and it was nice to experience what I learnt from the outside and then inside the cockpit today.”

Alonso completed an extensive list today. "We signed off lots of basic things we did in preparation at the factory like seat fitting, pedal position and so on, which is beneficial with only one and a half days of winter testing next year.”
