Horner sees wish coming closer: 'The latest signals are positive'

Red Bull Racing ended the 2020 Formula 1 season well with a victory, but they are still living in uncertainty surrounding 2022. Red Bull will then have to arrange a new engine after Honda pulls out of the sport.

In 2019, Red Bull Racing switched to Honda engines to try and take on Mercedes. However, Honda will pull the plug on the project at the end of 2021. Red Bull wants to take over Honda's project in 2022, but there are still some obstacles to overcome.

Honda puts everything on everything

''In our view, this can only be done cost-effectively if the current engine regulations are frozen after that year. The latest signals in that direction are positive. I am not just referring to the statements from Ferrari and Mercedes, which are benevolent. We are also currently holding constructive talks with the owners of the sport. Discussions are going on and solutions need to be found for some things, but I am positive," says Horner to De Telegraaf.

Nevertheless, Horner also has hope that successes can still be achieved with Honda in 2021. ''It will be their last year as an engine supplier in Formula 1. They are very motivated to finish at the highest level as possible. The people at Honda are very passionate and push hard to get everything out of it," Red Bull's team boss concludes.
