Gasly ambitious: 'Next year we want to do even better'

Pierre Gasly is performing brilliantly this year at AlphaTauri and that brings a lot of ambition to both the team and the Frenchman himself. For Gasly there is a key role for the team that wants to step out of the shadow of big brother Red Bull Racing.

Successful year

After he was demoted to Toro Rosso half way through 2019, Gasly blossomed again. After his podium at the GP of Brazil in 2019, he took the win at Monza earlier this year. "So this season is going extremely well, and I’m looking forward to next year to try and do even better, try to achieve more. AlphaTauri has great ambitions – and I’m happy to take more responsibilities with the team and try to bring them as much success as they deserve,” said the enthusiastic Frenchman to Formula1.com.

Continuity

For the first time in his early Formula 1 career, Gasly has been driving for the same team for two seasons in a row, which certainly benefits continuity. "I feel we have a very good understanding on each side for what we need and require to be competitive and the team really knows what tools to give me to perform; what I need to have in my hands to go fast.”

"It’s an important part of my job to lead them in the right direction in terms of development and areas we have to develop, and to improve, to go faster and faster and to achieve our targets, which is to finish as high as possible in the teams’ championship," he adds. AlphaTauri is currently seventh in the championship. The best result ever for the team is sixth place. However, the team has never scored as many points as in 2020.
