Rumours have been circulating for some time, but it is likely that the Saudi Arabian Motorsport Federation will announce on Thursday [November 5] that the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia for 2021 will be on the Formula 1 calendar.

The Formula 1 calendar for 2021 has not yet been presented, but the calendar is likely to consist of 23 races. The races originally planned for 2020 will appear on the calendar again, but there is one newcomer: Saudi Arabia. The country in the Middle East want to organise a street race in the city of Jeddah.

F1 to Saudi Arabia

The influence from Saudi Arabia has been visible for some time now, with sponsor Aramco on the banners of Formula 1. Aramco is the state oil company of Saudi Arabia, so the link with a Grand Prix in this country was soon made. In 2018 and 2019 an ePrix was also held in Saudi Arabia. It is being held in Diriyah.

Many question the choice of a race in Saudi Arabia. Firstly, the circuit will be similar to races such as Sochi and Azerbaijan, wherein 2020, it is precisely the old school circuits creating tension. Also, Formula 1 is busy with their campaign on equality, while according to Amnesty International, Saudi Arabia is a manhunt for human rights defenders and there are still no equal rights for women.
