Helmut Marko does not completely rule out the possibility that Red Bull Racing will eventually end up with a driver who is currently not connected to the Austrians. The top man of the Milton Keynes-based team, however, repeats that Alexander Albon is still in pole position for the seat next to Max Verstappen in 2021.

When AvD Motorsport Magazin asks Marko whether he is open to choosing someone from outside the Red Bull environment in the event of an 'emergency', he answers. "Yes, in the first place it is the competitiveness of a driver that counts. But as I said, it is a theory. Everything is still on track with Albon."

Still, the British Thai has to go a bit faster, because Marko doesn't seem to be as firm as he used to be. In principle, the Red Bull Racing advisor has three other options with Pierre Gasly, Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg. In Istanbul, the Austrian race team is planning to announce the line-up.

Marko gave Vettel advice

In the television broadcast on Sport1, the 77-year-old Austrian also discusses the situation of Sebastian Vettel. The four-time world champion did not see his contract extended at Ferrari and has now taken up a seat at the current Racing Point. That was not the advice Marko gave to his former pupil.

"I advised him to take an intermediate year. I think there will be some free seats in 2022, but he wanted to keep driving and chose Aston Martin," Marko concludes.
