The rumours surrounding the sale of the Mercedes Formula 1 team are getting bigger and bigger, but are now being suppressed by Daimler. The parent company of Mercedes has no intention of selling the team.

Will Mercedes be taken over?

The seventh title is on the horizon for Mercedes, and with it it it is performing something that no other team in Formula 1 has yet managed to do. Seven world titles in a row and a record for Lewis Hamilton is also at stake. The Brit can match Michael Schumacher with his seven championships this year, but what is there to win for Mercedes after that?

That is a question that has been around for a long time and the doubts around Toto Wolff's future as team boss and the lack of a new contract for Hamilton raise many questions. However, Daimler is now taking them away.

''We will continue with the team and that will also remain a Mercedes team. We have no intention of selling the team,'' says a Daimler spokesperson to Speedweek.com.

Wolff and Hamilton have to stay

''People pick up some pieces and make a story out of them, but that's just put together. Daimler doesn't want to sell the team and Ineos doesn't want to take over. I also don't want to lose my own shares, so there are already quite a few blockages on the road," says team boss Toto Wolff.

Wolff himself has already announced that he is considering continuing in another role. His role as team boss takes up a lot of his time and ensures that he is hardly at home. However, Daimler wants to continue with Wolff and also Hamilton. ''We want to continue with the same people: Lewis, Valtteri and Toto. We don't have a plan for another team boss," concludes the spokesman.
