For Wolff, it can't start soon enough: "I'm starving"

Mercedes came into action today at Silverstone in preparation for the upcoming season, which will look quite different due to corona measures. The teams have to adapt to this as well, with a smaller line-up, safety equipment and more. Despite everything, Toto Wolff is very happy that they can start racing again, he missed it very much.

Solid calendar

To Sky Sports, Toto Wolff says: "This is a solid European calendar and everyone at our plants in Brackley and Brixworth is relieved that it's finally starting. We love the competition, we missed it. The programme is challenging, but we owe it to the fans to race again and hopefully give them a good show."

This does come with challenges, because there will be several races in short succession and also travelling in a bubble is unusual. "There are special tasks ahead of us - three races in a row, employees who don't come home for weeks. But these are special circumstances." This also applies to the factories that have just passed the 'summer break' and have only five weeks left before it starts in Austria.

"Time to work on the cars is limited. We only have five weeks from the reopening of the factories after the corona lockdown until the start of the season. Maybe we'll bring an Evo package that we wanted to introduce around that time anyway. This was more of a live test that we'll do in free practice," Wolff said about the plans and their action on the track today.

Starving

Wolff is now in a totally different position compared to mid-March, when he was still in Australia with the whole of Formula 1. Contrary to then Wolff is now starving and as far as he is concerned it will be July the 5th as soon as possible. He has had enough time to rest and is therefore more ready than ever before.

"When we flew to Australia in March, my joy was not as great as usual at the beginning of a season. Perhaps it was because we had had six very intense years that there was still some mental exhaustion. Today I feel totally different, I'm really starving to go racing again."

"Unfortunately we won't have fans, the event will be reduced to pure competition, in other words, to what we love the most", said the team boss of Mercedes.
